A lot of wildlife calendars pretend they can tell you "elephants appear on the 14th" with a straight face. That's not how this works, and we'd rather be straight about it than sell you a fake sense of precision.
What actually changes here isn't a strict animal schedule, it's the whole set. December through February and June through September are the dry seasons, and they're basically the park showing off. Grass burns down low, water gets scarce enough that everyone crowds around what's left, and suddenly lions, leopards, elephants, and buffalo are all standing around in the open like they're posing for it. This is peak "wow, look at that" season, and it's popular for exactly that reason.
The wetter stretches, roughly March through May and October through November, are a completely different mood. Everything turns lush and green in a way the dry months genuinely never manage. The grass gets tall enough that spotting animals takes real patience instead of "there they are, obviously." In exchange, you get migratory birds passing through, a noticeable baby-animal season across several species, and dramatically fewer other vehicles crowding your view.
The Nile itself doesn't care what season it is. The boat safari runs year-round, hippos and Nile crocodiles show up on schedule regardless of rainfall, and chimp tracking in Budongo Forest works off the forest's own rhythm, not the savanna's.
So: dry season if you want the easy, dramatic, everyone's-out-in-the-open version. Wetter months if you'd rather have the park feeling genuinely alive and mostly to yourself, and you don't mind working a little harder for the sighting.
